Socotra-camel trek (8 days)

 

Sanaà - Hadibo - Wadi Dinaghen - Hagher Mountain (start of camel trek) - Wadi Hadheren - Amak Beach - Dagub cave (end of camel trek) - Qalansiah/Detwah Lagoon - Dihamri - Mushtal Adib - Hadibo - Sanaà

 

day 1: arrival in Socotra

transfer to Sanaá airport for the flight to Socotra. From the airport in Hadibo we drive to the hotel passing the desert rose and cucumber tree, different kinds of plants. Transfer to the hotel in Hadibo to relax and have lunch. The afternoon activity is a visit of Wadi Ayhfat national park which is one of most attractive & important for tourism. There are very big trees around the wadi with a beautiful landscape. There is a possibility to swim in the canyon of Ayhaft. Back to Hadibo. Dinner and night at hotel in Hadibo.

 

day 2: Wadi Dinaghen / Hagher

after breakfast we will drive from Hadibo to Wadi Dinaghen in the south of Hadibo town to meet our camels & cameleers. Then we will walk up from Wadi Dinaghen to Hagher mountain which is the highest mountain on the island (1000m) where you can see many different trees & beautiful landscape. Night in Wadi Asagaloh. 6 hours walking.

 

day 3: Wadi Haderhen

after breakfast we will hike from Wadi Asagaloh, passing Dihazhus to Abob. On the way we can see a variety of trees like the dragonblood tree, frankincense & myrrh trees. Then we will have lunch at Abob and continue to Wadi Haderhen. Dinner and night in Wadi Haderhen.6 hours walking.

 

day 4: Wadi Haderhen

after breakfast we will trek from Haderhen to Diqashen plateau (south-west direction). We have lunch at Diqashen lim. Lim means natural water hole. We continue walking to Diblahl lim. Dinner and night in Wadi Diblahl. 6 hours walking.

 

day 5: Amak/Dagub Cave

after breakfast we will walk down from Wadi Diblahl to Noged plain in the south of Socotra. Then we continue to Dagob cave where we join our cars to have lunch. After lunch we will drive to Amak beach. Amak is a beautiful beach situated on the Indian Ocean with many sand dunes and palm trees behind. Dinner and night on Amak beach campsite. 3-4 hours walking.

 

day 6: Qlansiah / Detwah Lagoon Protected Area

after breakfast we will transfer from Amak beach to Dixam plateau which is famous for its dragonblood trees. We drive to Wadi Dirrharr where we can take a bath in a natural pool. Then we continue to the north-west direction to Qalansyiah-town to look around this charming and picturesque fishing village with its traditional houses and narrow alleyways. We then go to the protected area of Detwah lagoon, which is renowned for its spectacular landscape. Sting rays can be seen in the lagoon, so take care when swimming. There is also a large array of sea birds to be seen at this location. Dinner and overnight at Detwah lagoon, protected area. 3-4 hours by car.

 

day 7: Dihamri marine protected area

after a sunrise breakfast, we drive to the north east of the island to themarine protected area of Dihamri which is home to one of the richest coral reefs of the archipelago. The many marine animals which can be seen whilst swimming/snorkelling include: parrotfish, moray eel, rays, sea urchins, etc. We would like to remind people not to touch the corals in the marine protected area as this would cause irreversible damage. Around 4 pm we drive to Mushtal Adib, a wonderful garden, where the owner cultivates all endemic plants of Socotra. We can either spend the night there camping or continue to Hadibo (hotel). It is your choice.  The camping ground where we can stay overnight is on the opposite side of the garden located on the sea. The place is created and kept very affectionately by the owner´s family. They prepare great dishes for you.

 

day 8: departure from Socotra

after an early breakfast, transfer to the airport. Arrival at Sanaà airport arround midday
